The High School Baseball and Softball seasons came to an end with some exciting games. One baseball game ended on a suicide squeeze bunt and another ended in controversy when a team thought they had won and didn't when their player was called ou for missing HOME PLATE!
Three of the 4 baseball games were decided by 1 run. In softball, no number 1 seed won.
Two number 3 seeds, a number 2 seed and a 23rd seed won state championships. The games were exciting and you always see unusual plays in these games. (Illegal appeal on a tag up
allowing a run to score, a runner passing another on the bases disallowing a run etc.). Yet in spite of these weird plays, the games were great and this season was fantastic. The mound being moved back to 43 feet, the ball put in play more, more plays having to be made by the defense, made for some great games. The parity among the leagues was tremendous. In my mind there was no dominating team, no game where I left the game saying WOW about a certain team, they won't be beaten. Yet it made for a great season. It was great once again to broadcast the softball games on the air. Thanks to all the sponsors for supporting me because without them, there would be no games on the air. I look forward now to covering American Legion baseball and Little League baseball and softball. All Star teams are being selected now. The Road to Williansport, Portland(Ore.) and many more are now open. Which teams will get there? Maybe it will be one of our local teams and if it is, I'll be covering it.
