The Summer Begins
Ah! Let the Summer begin. I love the hot weather. It breeds baseball and softball games. I'll take warm weather over the cold any day of the week. Remember you don't have to shovel rain.
American Legion baseball season is underway. This is by far the toughest "season". A lot of games in just a short time and if you get a rainout, you play almost everyday( not that I think that's a bad thing).
It's also Little League All Star time. All Star teams have been formed in  baseball and softball and the tournaments are about to begin. The Districts are first( I remember when they were single elimination) many times they are  pool play guranteeing teams several games, then the Sectionals and then the States, winner to the Regional and then the World Series. It's basically another whole season.
And remember, Little League does not end at 12 years old. Junior, Senior, and Big League teams play up until 18 years old.
It's an exciting time. I hope one of our local teams, no matter what age, make it all the way to the World Series.
But how about the kids that don't make the All Star teams? Let's hope there are summer leagues and tournaments for those kids as well. Because June, July and maybe even part of August, kids should be outside playing baseball and softball. There is nothing worse than seeing a vacant field.
